Kumbakonam is a town in Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu, which is famous for its 188 temples and mathas. The town is 273 km from Chennai and 40 km from Thanjavur. The city hosts the Mahamaham festival once every 12 years and attracts large crowds of the devout.
