When on holiday we all get a little concerned about what we should be tipping to the staff in the restaurants or cafes that we choose to frequent. So if you want to avoid the embarrassment that some holiday makers have been faced with it is worth while doing some research beforehand.
By knowing more about a particular countries customs when it comes to tipping can help to save you a whole lot of problems. But if you are having problems discovering what is recommended then stick with the universal method of adding 10% on to the total cost of the bill. Therefore if you bill comes to say 50 Euros, then a 5 Euro tip would be more than acceptable. But of course you can tip less if you wish it really should come down to what kind of service the staff where you were provided.
There are also a number of other things you must do and which could help with saving you money when it comes to tipping on holiday. Below we take a look at some of the things to do before you do actually tip.
Tip 1 – When you receive the bill check it thoroughly to see whether the charge for service has been included within it or not. As you look at the bill check to see if there is a part classed as "grat" or "S/C" on it.
Tip 2 – if you are going to be paying your bill by debit or credit card and they leave the space on the slip that you sign blank for a tip, never assume that they haven't already charged this fee. So make sure that you confirm with them before you do sign.
Tip 3 – Another thing to look at when paying your bill make sure that you aren't being asked to pay a percentage of the tax on it. Any tips you pay should be based on bills before tax has been included.
